The developers responsible for a virtual coin introduced by First Lady of the United States Melania Trump are now accused in court filings of orchestrating a market manipulation plot.
Coin Release and Price Surge
The $MELANIA coins were issued for just a few cents each on January 19, the day before former President Trump assumed the presidency.
In addition to the Melania cryptocurrency, Trump himself released his personal token a few hours before the swearing-in event.
Shortly after launch, the market value of the $MELANIA coin surged to over $13 per coin.
Rapid Decline in Price
However, the price then collapsed just as rapidly, and currently stands at less than 15 cents – below 1% of its highest value.

The plaintiffs assert that the token's architects planned the maneuver knowing that the token's worth would plummet.

In newly filed court papers, investors charge executives of the Meteora trading platform, where the First Lady's token was initially traded, of creating a operation that enabled them to indirectly purchase large quantities of the digital token.
Their partners then rapidly offloaded these digital currencies, securing large returns while causing the market to collapse, as stated in records entered in Manhattan federal court.
Wider Proceedings
The charges regarding the Melania token have been added to court cases regarding several other virtual tokens, which commenced in April.
The Trump organization has allegedly secured over a billion dollars in pre-tax earnings from various cryptocurrency-related enterprises and organizations over the last year.
