Hodgkinson achieved her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos event in New York on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only event filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, introducing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was present to present the winners with their crowns.

Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, won the 100m and 200m double.
