Australian police have suspended the hunt for a four-year-old who has been disappeared in the outback for nearly three weeks, after fresh efforts failed to discover any traces of the youngster.

Timeline of Incidents

The child was observed engaging near his residence on a isolated sheep station close to Yunta, about a significant distance from Adelaide, on September 27th.

His grandparent briefly departed for about a short period before checking on him, only to find the child nowhere to be found, triggering one of the biggest ground and aerial searches in local history.

Latest Position

Authorities - who do not think there was criminal activity - say they will continue investigating, but that the situation has become a "search for recovery".

Earlier, police briefly scaled back the search, only to recommence it on recently alongside 80 Australian Defense Force members.

"Commissioner the commissioner said authorities were scanning a wider area based on updated assessments from survival and operation experts, rather than any recent developments."

Search Obstacles

On Friday, authorities stated that the latest hunt had not uncovered any traces of the child.

"The situation that Gus is a little boy, the environment is particularly rugged, unforgiving and affected by variable climate has made the mission demanding and more challenging for those engaged," police said in a statement.

About a vast area - an area roughly double the size of Edinburgh - has now been searched, and a 12-person unit created recently is projected to carry on investigating. Officials have not excluded additional missions of the location in the coming days.

The child, who has been described as an adventurous but shy youngster, was observed wearing a grey hat, pale gray pants, footwear and a blue long-sleeved top featuring a golden Minion figure.

The situation has sparked huge interest across the nation, with images of the light-haired, curly-haired youngster featured across regional news and discussion running rife online.

It prompted authorities to ask that members of the public cease calling them with their "theories", and request for them to source updates from trustworthy channels.

Loved Ones Statement

Police recently said the youngster's relatives stay "resilient" despite the difficult circumstances.

"It's easy to comprehend just how they are coping... without having information as to precisely where their child is and what's transpired to him. This would be traumatic for all families," Spokesperson Stevens said.

Via a representative, the Lamont loved ones has before said they are "heartbroken" by the child's vanishing.

"This has come as a trauma to our family and loved ones, and we are having trouble to process what has occurred," the spokesperson said.

"Their son's loss is experienced in all of us, and we yearn for him exceeding expressions can describe."
