New England Match Longest Winning Streak From Brady Era with Win Against Jets
First-year player Henderson has scored five scores this season
New England matched their best victory streak since the Brady era as they overcame division rivals the Jets 27-14 in the NFL
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the first time since star signal-caller Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The win increases the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The Jets had scored first at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to cap the Jets' opening drive
But the New England responded in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier caught a pass from Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third quarter to make it 21 to 7
"It was a crucial moment for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He aims to be excellent."
Fields connected with Metchie late in the third quarter to close the gap for the Jets but Andy Borregales kicked a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots sealed the victory
